St. Theodore (San Toto) Rotunda,Palatine Hill, Rome, Italy

The Rotunda of Saint Theodore, at the foot of the Palatine Hill, represents a monument whose roots lead us to the heart of Roman mythology and the foundation of the Eternal City: according to tradition, the small church dating from the 6th century was built on in the ruins of an ancient temple, which was built on the spot where Romulus and Remus were fed by the wolf, on the banks of the Tiber (the waters of which at that time reached the foot of the Palatine Hill).

The Church of Saint Theodore was granted to the Orthodox Diocese of Italy and Melitis - by the Church of Rome - in April 2000. His Eminence the Metropolitan of Italy and Melitis, Mr. Gennadios found the donor for the complete renovation of the magnificent Church, Mrs. Fotini Livanou. The late Giannis Karousos then painted some parts of the church. It was inaugurated on July 1, 2004, by the A.Th.P. the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.
